Job Description
The College of Arts & Sciences at Syracuse University seeks a Part‑Time Faculty to teach HOM 314 – Music Videos From MTV to Today (3 Credits) for the Department of Art & Music Histories during the Fall 2026 semester. This class will examine music videos from the 1980s to the present through critical and historical perspectives. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department.
This position is subject to funding availability and enrollment.
Ph.D. or ABD in Music History or a related field.
Job Specific QualificationsNone
Responsibilities- Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
- Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
- Preparing lectures, projects or other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
- Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
- Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
- Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Completing all other course-related duties as outlined by your department’s policies for part‑time instructors.
