Location: City of Syracuse

Science Academies of New York (SANY) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced educator to serve as a Part-Time ENL Teacher and District ENL Coordinator
. In this unique dual-role position, you will provide direct, high-quality English as a New Language (ENL) instruction to students in one of our campus buildings while concurrently leading and aligning the ENL program across our entire charter district.

The ideal candidate is an expert in language acquisition, a collaborative leader, and possesses the flexibility to travel regularly between our campuses in Syracuse, Rochester, and Utica to ensure program excellence and compliance.

Key Responsibilities Teaching & Instruction (Campus-Based)
  • Plan and deliver rigorous, engaging, and culturally responsive ENL instruction using push-in and/or pull-out models.
  • Administer and score initial and annual state language assessments, including the NYSITELL and WIDA.
  • Collaborate with classroom and content-area teachers to scaffold lessons and ensure Multilingual Learners (MLLs) can access the core curriculum.
  • Monitor student language proficiency progress and maintain accurate records of student growth and interventions.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and families regarding student progress, providing translation or interpretation resources as needed.
District Coordination (Network-Wide)
  • Serve as the primary liaison for the ENL department across all SANY locations (Syracuse, Rochester, and Utica).
  • Travel regularly between campuses to observe ENL classrooms, provide coaching, and ensure instructional consistency.
  • Ensure district-wide compliance with New York State CR Part 154 regulations regarding MLL identification, placement, instructional minutes, and reporting.
  • Design and facilitate professional development for general education teachers, ENL staff, and administration on best practices for supporting MLLs.
  • Audit district ENL data and student files to ensure accuracy for state reporting and funding requirements.
  • Lead the coordination of WIDA testing logistics across all campuses.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Certification: Valid New York State Certification in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of successful ENL teaching experience, preferably in a diverse or urban school setting.
  • Leadership: Prior experience in educational leadership, curriculum development, or mentoring is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge Base: Deep understanding of NYS CR Part 154 regulations, WIDA/NYSITELL administration, and best practices in language acquisition.
  • Travel Capability: Must possess a valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation, and the willingness to travel frequently between SANY campuses in Syracuse, Rochester, and Utica.
  • Skills: Exceptional organizational, communication, and time-management skills to effectively balance teaching duties with district-wide coordination.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to commute regionally up to several times a month.
  • Ability to navigate school buildings, stand for extended periods during instruction, and lift up to 15 pounds of educational materials.
