About Onondaga Community College:Onondaga Community College, located in Syracuse, NY, is a college of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and one of 30 locally sponsored community colleges throughout New York State. The ASAP Navigator will provide individualized academic and personal support to a cohort of students enrolled in the ASAP program at Onondaga Community College. The Navigator plays an essential role in guiding students through their academic journey, helping them navigate challenges, and connecting them with resources to ensure timely graduation. Through individual and group meetings, advising and coaching, developmental programs, and other engagement opportunities, the Navigator will assist students by implementing pre-identified strategies proven to create an educational pathway that supports student retention and success.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES- Offer personalized guidance on course selection, academic planning, and progression to ensure students meet their educational goals.
- Assist students in overcoming personal, financial, and academic obstacles by connecting them with appropriate campus and community resources.
- Develop and facilitate workshops on topics such as study skills, time management, career exploration, and financial literacy.
- Track student performance, maintain detailed records, and implement interventions as needed to promote student success.
- Work closely with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to coordinate support services and advocate for student needs.
- Participate in the recruitment of new students and assist in orientation sessions to acclimate them to the program.
- Stay informed about best practices in academic advising and student support through ongoing professional development.
- Perform other duties and special assignments as requested
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, social work, psychology, or a related field from a regionally accredited college, university or foreign equivalency.
- At least 2 years of experience in academic advising, counseling, or student services within a higher education setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Proficiency in using advising and student management software.
- A strong commitment to supporting a diverse student population and enhancing student success.
- Master's degree in counseling, education, social work, psychology, or a related field from a regionally accredited college, university or foreign equivalency.
- Experience working with traditionally under-represented students, including low-income students, and organizations that serve the needs of these populations.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and other languages will be considered.
- Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of disadvantaged students
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and effectively prioritize among competing needs
- Ability to utilize assessment to guide initiative development
- Ability to handle confidential information in a professional and sensitive manner
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse student population
- Possess a willingness to take initiative on new projects and embrace change
- Salary range is: $44,000 - $55,000, commensurate with credentials and relevant experience.
