Role Overview

The Lead Academic and Professional Advisor plays an important role in the College of Arts and Sciences and Maxwell advising team, serving as a professional leader with expertise in advising undergraduate students who are exploring major options or have already declared a major. The position collaborates with faculty and departments to support students’ academic and professional goals and timely degree completion.

Responsibilities
  • Provide academic and professional advising through one‑on‑one and group sessions for an assigned cohort of undergraduate students, ensuring on‑time graduation requirements are met and maintaining accurate student records.
  • Design, develop, update, and deliver career and academic workshops on topics such as major/minor selection, program requirements, career development, job‑search strategies and graduate school planning.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, alumni and employers to guide students toward successful post‑college pathways and serve as main point of contact for students regarding program options.
  • Identify, track, and report metrics on career‑related outcomes, administer and interpret career assessments, and report data to College and University leadership.
  • Provide leadership and training to the advising team under the guidance of an Assistant Director, including input on advisor performance.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred. Minimum three years of academic advising experience at the college level.

  • Deep knowledge of academic counseling methods and career modeling, including interpretation of aptitude and career assessment instruments.
  • Experience in career exploration and counseling as part of academic advising.
  • Excellent interpersonal, planning, teamwork, and organizational skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Capability to independently review and recommend improvements to advising policy and procedures.
