Job Description:
The Department of African American Studies in Syracuse University's College of Arts & Sciences seeks a part-time Instructor for the 2026 fall semester to teach an upper-level course about jazz music among people of African descent in American communities with the start date of August 17, 2026.
The course meeting day/time is scheduled for Tuesday/Thursday, from 3:30 pm - 4:50 pm with an in-person format on the SU Campus.
AAS 409:African American Jazz and Social Life (3 credits)
In this course students will study how creative practices and writings of African American jazz improvisers and composers engage the definitions, production, distribution, and reception of music. In addition, students will read critical jazz scholarship and listen to select recordings.
The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department.
All course offerings are subject to funding availability and enrollment.
