Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management

The successful candidate will pursue and promote a progressive research agenda that advances the field of supply chain management (SCM), while also contributing to ongoing teaching and service efforts within the Whitman School and among its community partners. We expect the selected individual for this hire to join the faculty for the 2027-28 academic year.

The Supply Chain Management program at the Whitman School has an outstanding history of excellence. It was the first SCM program in the nation, created in 1919. The SCM program offers degree programs at the undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels, as well as a standalone MS Supply Chain Management program in both residential and online formats. The SCM faculty are highly research active and publish regularly in leading journals.

The SCM faculty also have high levels of visibility in professional organizations such as MSOM and INFORMS, as well as in the public press. Among other activities, the SCM faculty has, since 1949, hosted the annual Salzberg Memorial Lecture program that recognizes exemplary practitioners and scholars. Among other accolades, the SCM program is ranked among the top 25 nationally by Gartner for both undergraduate and graduate programs.

The doctoral program maintains a cohort of research scholars.

SCM faculty members are expected to engage in world-class scholarly research, teach courses in supply chain management (core or elective courses), contribute to service-related initiatives and organizational citizenship, and work collaboratively with other faculty members.

Successful candidates should have earned a doctorate from an accredited program or expect degree completion by summer 2027. We are looking for candidates with a clear focus on supply chain management and a demonstrated willingness to conduct high-quality scholarly supply chain management research and publish in leading academic journals. Candidates should also have demonstrated potential for teaching excellence, including using innovative pedagogical approaches, and have the ability to contribute positively to a participative, collegial setting.

Qualifications

PhD in supply chain management or related field by the start of the position.

Job Specific Qualifications

Successful candidates for this position will have:

* PhD completed in SCM or related field (such as operations management, analytics, industrial engineering, operations research);

* A background in areas related to procurement, technology, and AI use within SCM;

* Demonstrated research ability and promise;

* Strong teaching skills and demonstrated levels of excellence in classroom performance;

* Enthusiasm for working in a dedicated group of supply chain management faculty that conduct academic work and with connections to industry;

* Collegiality, with strong verbal and communication skills and the interpersonal skills to work with students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management has the following responsibilities:

* Will teach in-person courses every year, with specific courses determined by the Chair of the Marketing Department of the Whitman School of Management;

* Engage in world-class scholarly research with an emphasis on top-tier journal publications;

* Contribute to service-related initiatives in the supply chain management area;

* Other student-related service as assigned.
