English Learning Assistant - FWS
The English Language Institute (ELI) is looking for a friendly and reliable student to help support English learners in our community. This position focuses on helping participants practice their English skills and build confidence through conversation and guided activities.
As an English Learning Assistant, you will work with individuals or small groups to practice speaking, reading, and basic writing. You may also help set up placement tests and assist them in finding and using learning resources.
This position is scheduled for five hours per week, with hours to be determined based on student availability and community programming needs.
Job Responsibilities- Help English learners practice speaking, reading, and basic writing skills
- Support one-on-one and small group conversation practice
- Assist participants during the placement testing process
- Help students find and use learning materials and resources
- Create a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Must have a valid FAFSA on file
- Must have a financial need, as demonstrated by the FAFSA
- Must be matriculated into a program attending at least half-time (6 credit hours)
- Maintain satisfactory progress (SAP) towards the completion of their program
- Current student in good standing at OCC
Preferred Candidates:
- Comfortable speaking and communicating in English
- Patient, friendly, and approachable
- Interested in helping others learn
- Reliable and able to commit to a weekly schedule
- Multilingual students are encouraged to apply

Pay Rate:
Starting rate of $16.00 for new Federal Work Studies. Starting rate of $17.00 for returning Federal Work Studies.
Hours of Operations:
Monday-Friday 8:30am- 4:30pm.

Review the Work-Study Checklist & complete and submit the Work Study Interest Form or visit the Financial Aid Service Center (FASC) located in Gordon Student Center open Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm. Federal Work Study may work up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session. Additional hours may be worked during college breaks.
