Job Overview

The Whitman School of Management seeks a dedicated Career Advisor to guide full‑time undergraduate business students through every stage of their professional journey. In this role, you will lead career‑advising sessions, develop career‑education programming, and build relationships with employers, faculty, staff, and alumni to create meaningful opportunities for students.

$62,400

Standard University business hours
8:30am – 5:00pm (academic year)
8:00am – 4:30pm (summer)
Hours may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree and 1–3 years of experience in career coaching, recruiting, placement, project management, or a similar field.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience meeting the unique needs of business students is helpful.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in career services advising across diverse populations and in employer‑relationship development.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple demands and priorities.
  • High capacity to meet deadlines, strong time‑management and organizational skills, and discretion with confidential information.
  • High levels of accountability, follow‑through, and internal/external relationship management.
  • Passion for helping others and thriving as part of a team.
  • Experience or strong intention to learn about business majors and industries.
  • Intermediate technology skills in Excel, Salesforce, database management, and online platforms.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends, and travel for student events, employer relationship development, and conferences.
Responsibilities
  • Coaching, Advising, Teaching, and Training:
    • Provide career counseling, advising, and coaching to a diverse, full‑time undergraduate business student population (career research, resume and cover letter writing, internship and job search strategy, interview preparation, and networking tips).
    • Develop and implement unique career education programming for Whitman undergraduate students with the career center team, utilizing career‑development theories and modern methodologies.
    • Lead one‑on‑one and group sessions to facilitate skill development and exploration of opportunities; maintain knowledge of related industries and career paths relevant to undergraduate business students.
    • Deliver information with a teaching and learning focus in person, virtually, and through online resources; address emerging student needs and evaluate gaps in engagement and skill sets.
  • Outcomes and Accountability:
    • Track, audit, and analyze internship and post‑graduation placement outcomes with high attention to detail according to national reporting standards.
    • Provide thoughtful, thorough, and timely responses; specialize in strategic, proactive outreach to all connected parties.
  • Relationship Development and Employer Relations Support:
    • Partner with employer‑relations staff, faculty, alumni, and students to understand strategic recruiting and hiring needs for full‑time employment and internship placement of Whitman undergraduate students.
    • Communicate student skills and interests to employer‑relations staff to shape strategy and create opportunities for students.
    • Bring creative ideas to professional development and career readiness for students.
    • Partner in piloting innovative approaches for building partnerships and engaging students and stakeholders, with a mindset focused on student needs and business-related fields.
