Chemistry in the Modern World (Fall 2026)

The Chemistry Department is seeking a part-time instructor to teach CHE
103:
Chemistry in the Modern World (4 credits) for the Fall 2026 semester. This course explores the basic concepts and principles of chemistry and applications of chemistry to problems in the modern world. The lecture meets in-person each Monday and Wednesday from 2:15pm-3:35pm. Additionally, the instructor will be required to attend multiple in-person lab sessions per week. The instructor will be supported by being provided syllabus templates and assistance related to exam preparation and assignments.

Office staff aid with class logistics and student organization.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D., or working towards a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field. Candidates have a previous experience teaching chemistry and a strong laboratory background or previous laboratory instruction experience.

Responsibilities include developing and/or updating a class syllabus, ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date, preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments, maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week, presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course, meeting all designated class periods, submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations, working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes, grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner, providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations, and completing all other course-related duties as outlined by your department's policies for part-time instruction.
