Description

The Academic Dean reports directly to the Dean and provides leadership and oversight for all academic operations of St. Joseph's College of Nursing. The Academic Dean collaborates with faculty, staff, students, and healthcare partners to ensure excellence in curriculum, teaching and learning, student success, accreditation compliance, and academic quality improvement. The position is responsible for the day-to-day administration of academic programs, faculty leadership, and implementation of strategic academic initiatives established by the Dean.

The position is responsible for the day-to-day administration of academic programs, faculty leadership, and implementation of strategic academic initiatives established by the Dean.

Serves as liaison officer with accrediting agencies which evaluate academic programs. May serve as chief administrator in the absence of the Dean of the college.

Education, Training, Experience, Certification, And Licensure
  • Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse license.
  • Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Earned doctoral degree (PhD, DNP, EdD, or related field) preferred; doctorate required within an established timeframe if not currently completed.
  • Minimum of five to seven years in nursing and nursing education.
  • Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, accreditation, faculty leadership, and program evaluation.
  • Knowledge of ACEN/MSCHE/CCNE accreditation standards, NYSED requirements, and contemporary nursing education practices.

Specialized knowledge and skills in education and curriculum development. General knowledge in nursing practice required. Participates in orientation and continuing education with additional experience as a nurse educator. Updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.

Special Equipment, skills, and other requirements:
Written and oral communication skills, interpersonal, motivational and conflict resolution skills. Team building and administrative skills. Broad based knowledge of related regulatory compliance requirements. Organizational skills including time management and customer service oriented.

Faculty Leadership and Supervision
  • Provides direct supervision, leadership, mentoring, and evaluation of full-time and adjunct faculty.
  • Conducts faculty recruitment, onboarding, orientation, coaching, and performance management/evaluations.
  • Oversees faculty workload development, distribution, and monitoring.
  • Maintain up-to-date faculty files.
  • Conducts regular individual meetings with faculty and facilitates faculty meetings.
  • Supports faculty professional development, scholarship, and engagement in institutional activities.
  • Addresses faculty concerns and collaborates with the Dean regarding performance improvement and personnel matters.
  • Promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, professionalism, civility, and excellence.
  • Oversees payroll processes.
Academic Program Administration
  • Provides leadership for curriculum implementation, evaluation, revision, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborates with faculty to ensure curriculum alignment with program outcomes, accreditation standards, and professional nursing practice requirements.
  • Oversees course scheduling, faculty assignments, and academic resource allocation.
  • Monitors student progression, retention, graduation, and licensure outcomes.
  • Leads assessment and evaluation activities that support academic excellence and program effectiveness.
  • Oversees student grievances, conduct processes, and academic appeals to ensure consistent application of College policies and due process.
