Onondaga Community College, located in Syracuse, NY, is a college of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and one of 30 locally sponsored community colleges throughout New York State. Onondaga County is our sponsor. We offer two-year degree programs that serve as transfer opportunities to baccalaureate degree programs at four-year campuses or for direct entry to the workforce. We also offer certificate programs that can generally be completed in one year.

The English Language Institute (ELI) is looking for a friendly and reliable student to help support English learners in our community. This position focuses on helping participants practice their English skills and build confidence through conversation and guided activities.
As an English Learning Assistant, you will work with individuals or small groups to practice speaking, reading, and basic writing. You may also help set up placement tests and assist them in finding and using learning resources.
This position is scheduled for 5 hours per week, with hours to be determined based on student availability and community programming needs.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Help English learners practice speaking, reading, and basic writing skills
- Support one-on-one and small group conversation practice
- Assist participants during the placement testing process
- Help students find and use learning materials and resources
- Create a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Must have a financial need, as demonstrated by the FAFSA
- Must be matriculated into a program
- Attending at least half-time (6 credit hours)
- Maintain satisfactory progress (SAP) towards the completion of their program
- Current student in good standing at OCC

- Pay Rate:
- Starting rate of $16.00 for new Federal Work Studies.
- Starting rate of $17.00for returning Federal Work Studies
- Hours of Operations:Monday-Friday 8:30am- 4:30pm

Federal Work Study may work up to
