Position: Native Center - FWS - Onondaga Community College
Location: City of Syracuse

Onondaga Community College, located in Syracuse, NY, is a college of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and one of 30 locally sponsored community colleges throughout New York State. Onondaga County is our sponsor. We offer two-year degree programs that serve as transfer opportunities to baccalaureate degree programs at four-year campuses or for direct entry to the workforce. We also offer certificate programs that can generally be completed in one year.

Job Description:

This is a Federal Work Study (FWS) position

The Native/Indigenous Admissions Specialist will support the Office of Admissions in promoting Onondaga Community College to prospective Native/Indigenous students and families. The role is ideal for a student who is passionate about higher education, enjoys engaging with people, and wants hands-on experience and recruitment processes.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in planning campus tours, open houses, Center for Native/Indigenous Students Tours, OCC Haudenosaunee Arts Fest and other recruitment events.
  • Serve as a tour guide and along with Native/Indigenous Admissions Coordinator provide campus tours to prospective Native/Indigenous Students and families.
  • Assist in responding to prospective student inquiries via email, phone and in person.
  • Support data entry filing, and other administrative tasks related to prospective student records.
  • Help prepare admission materials such as packets, brochures and mailings.
  • Contribute to social media and digital outreach methods.
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Must have a financial need, as demonstrated by the FAFSA
  • Must be matriculated into a program
  • Attending at least half-time (6 credit hours)
  • Maintain satisfactory progress (SAP) towards the completion of their program
Additional Information:
  • Pay Rate:
    • Starting rate of $16.00 for new Federal Work Studies.
    • Starting rate of $17.00 for returning Federal Work Studies
  • Hours of Operations: Monday-Friday 8:30am- 4:30pm

Federal Work Study may work up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session.

  • Additional hours may be worked during college breaks.
