Assistant Engineer (HVAC & Plumbing)

We are seeking a MEP design engineer for a consulting engineering firm providing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design services for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. Seeking a motivated Assistant Engineer with 1–3 years of experience to support HVAC and plumbing system design. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to gain hands‑on experience, develop technical skills, and work closely with engineers on a variety of building projects.

• Assist in the design and layout of HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial and institutional buildings
• Perform basic engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and system selections under supervision
• Develop construction documents including plans, schedules, and details using AutoCAD and/or Revit
• Coordinate with engineers, architects, and other disciplines
• Support field surveys, site visits, and existing conditions documentation
• Assist with responses to RFIs, submittal reviews, and construction administration tasks
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 1–3 years of experience in HVAC and plumbing design (internship or co‑op experience considered)
• Working knowledge of HVAC systems (air handling units, VAV systems, boilers, chillers, etc.)
• Basic understanding of plumbing systems (domestic water, sanitary, storm, gas)
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit
• Knowledge of NYS and applicable mechanical/plumbing codes preferred
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Effective written and verbal communication skills

• Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification or progress toward licensure
• Experience with energy codes and basic load calculations
• Exposure to construction administration or field work

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Syracuse, NY.

The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $38.00/hr.
