About This Position
Join the Creighton Manning team, a GAI Consultants Company seeking an experienced Structural Project Engineer for bridge and other transportation-related projects to join our consulting firm in Albany, Poughkeepsie, Syracuse, or White Plains, New York.
As a Project Engineer you will be a fully competent engineer in all aspects of assignments, develop and evaluate plans and criteria, advise junior staff, assess feasibility of proposals, and serve as an advisor and consultant in technical specialties. Typical work includes bridge and culvert rehabilitations and replacements, retaining wall design, miscellaneous structural design for transportation infrastructure, and construction engineering support.
You may be required to work outside normal hours to meet client requests and attend meetings.
- Experience progressing transportation infrastructure design projects in New York State, including culvert and bridge replacement or rehabilitation projects.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication, presentation, and client‑relation skills—both verbal and written.
- Prepare or check calculations and direct design procedures of others to ensure compliance with AASHTO and NYSDOT design standards.
- Prepare design reports, specifications, plans, studies, permits, and designs for various bridge projects.
- Develop plan details for bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects in accordance with NYSDOT Standards.
- Work within allocated scope and budget, coordinating with client and team to develop effective and efficient solutions.
- Perform structural analysis and/or stability review of existing or new bridges and structures for proposed construction loading and temporary conditions.
- Develop demolition/erection sequence plans and conduct stability analysis during each construction stage.
- Analyze and design temporary shoring towers/systems for gravity and lateral loads.
- Design and detail hydraulic jacking and structural lifting systems.
- Develop crane pick plans, including geometry and feasibility studies, site logistics, crane sizing and capacity checks, load‑distribution mat design, and custom rigging.
- Serve as Project Engineer with autonomy on project‑related tasks and as a designated client contact; may take responsibilities on multiple projects.
- Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of engineering work.
- Plan and conduct work requiring judgment and independent evaluation.
- Apply standard technology and procedures.
- Conduct analysis using appropriate applications.
- Anticipate and align with larger project objectives.
- Complete complex engineering assignments.
- Review cost and quantity estimates prepared by others.
- Attend project meetings and present specific aspects of assignments.
- Prepare reports covering all levels of project complexity.
- Assume client relations for routine basic projects.
- Delegate and supervise Engineers I/II/III and Technicians.
- Coordinate multi‑disciplinary projects.
- Provide technical guidance for complex problems.
- Perform QC/peer review.
- Oversee quality and standards.
- Serve as consultant and technical leader on proposals and projects, providing guidance and strategy assistance in developing design and planning proposals.
- Develop innovative approaches to solve technical issues within fiscal realities.
- Seek technical challenges and troubleshoot issues on projects.
- Review product documents for technical quality assurance and compliance with standards.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program or an approved equivalent.
- 5-10 years of experience in a comparable engineering role.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure in NY or the ability to obtain reciprocal licensure.
- Driver's license required.

Pay is based on applicant's ability/experience and labor market and will be rated accordingly.
