Job Description
Saab, Inc. is seeking an experienced Principal Project Engineer to support the evolution, sustainment, and deployment of advanced Naval solid‑state transmitter systems.
As a Principal Project Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader driving product modernization, customer capability enhancements, and successful fielding of mission‑critical solutions for U.S. Navy and defense customers. In this highly visible role, you will work closely with engineering, program management, business development, and executive leadership to shape product strategy, execute complex technical programs, and deliver innovative, reliable solutions in support of national defense missions.
Responsibilities- Lead the technical development efforts associated with new product functionality, product enhancements, obsolescence mitigation, and cybersecurity patching
- Work with a team of program management and business development peers to identify new opportunities and generate winning proposals
- Manage the technical execution for multiple programs, within a schedule and budget while leading risk and opportunity management efforts
- Manage internal Saab investments that align to the specific product line development
- Collaborate across the functional organizations within Saab in the U.S.
Compensation Range: $165,700 - $223,800. The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, market and business considerations, and the candidate's experience, skills, and education/training.
Required Skills and Experience- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math or Science. Master’s degree strongly preferred.
- 12+ years of experience.
- Demonstrated responsibility for program execution, leading teams in the aerospace and defense industry.
- Previously demonstrated customer relationship management and technical leadership skills with cross‑functional experience.
- Demonstrated ability to interact and influence customers and key stakeholders (internal and external).
- Proven ability to lead problem reports through a rigorous change management process.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical and RF concepts.
- Must have, or be able to obtain, a U.S. DoD SECRET security clearance.
- Able to communicate and make presentations to senior leadership within the company and customer communities.
- Experience with product development and sustainment.
- Experience with management of software development, integration and test efforts.
- Experience with the Navy’s Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) process.
- Familiarity with the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) process.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct a formal Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA).
- Experience applying for, and working within, a Technical Assistance Agreement (TAA).
- Experience leading radar systems development programs is a plus.
