Environmental Engineer – Entry Level (Syracuse, NY)
Arcadis, a global leader in sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions, is seeking an entry‑level Environmental Engineer to join our Resilience Environment team in Syracuse, NY. The role starts in June 2026, with candidates graduating in May 2026 encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities- Assist Project Managers and Task Managers with environmental site characterization, investigation, and remediation tasks.
- Perform civil/environmental engineering design, including land development planning, hydraulic modeling and calculations, erosion and sediment control evaluations and layout, and earthwork site design.
- Develop permit/construction‑level drawings and details, prepare technical specifications, and prepare construction cost estimates.
- Prepare subcontracts and oversee the work of subcontractors.
- Conduct fieldwork with a focus on health and safety, including soil, sediment, surface water and/or groundwater sampling, geotechnical investigations, and construction oversight.
- Write and prepare technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda.
- Coordinate tasks, compile and interpret data, prepare cost estimates, health and safety plans, regulatory file reviews, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget management, and establish subcontracts.
- Interpret and evaluate field and analytical data to prepare engineering designs, permit applications, and construction‑related documents.
- Design environmental remediation systems for soil and groundwater, including in‑situ technology treatment design and assessments.
- Field work will require regional business travel for up to 1‑2 days per week on average.
- Occasional travel within the U.S. for up to two weeks at a time.
- Estimated travel up to 75% during the first two years, reducing to about 50% by the third year.
- Travel expenses are reimbursable.
Required
- Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field (e.g., environmental, biological, physical science).
- EIT Certification.
- Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Current OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training.
- Experience with engineering software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, Hydro
CAD, WinTR‑55, Pond Pack, HEC‑RAS, ArcGIS.
Salary range: $54,648 – $81,972. Actual salaries will vary based on experience, education, budget, and internal equity.
