Overview
Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all. Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever. The U.S. Expansion Construction team is responsible for the design and construction efforts for high‑tech, large‑scale projects.
Current projects include high‑volume manufacturing facilities in Boise, Idaho (ID1 & ID2) and a greenfield facility in Clay, New York.
As the NY Waste Treatment Operations Engineer, you will oversee the design, construction and commissioning of waste treatment systems for cutting‑edge semiconductor manufacturing facilities. You will manage design partners to ensure projects meet stringent specifications, performance standards and regulatory requirements from start to finish.
Responsibilities and Tasks- Oversee third‑party design firms in development of waste treatment systems (chemical neutralization, wastewater treatment, solid waste handling for hazardous and non‑hazardous materials).
- Review and validate third‑party design deliverables such as piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment specifications and system layouts, ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards (EPA, RCRA, Clean Water Act).
- Conduct technical evaluations of third‑party designs to verify treatment efficiency, chemical compatibility, discharge compliance and system safety.
- Collaborate with external design teams, contractors, vendors and internal stakeholders to align waste treatment system designs with facility requirements and project timelines.
- Perform quality assurance and risk assessments on third‑party designs, identifying and resolving issues related to regulatory compliance, constructability or environmental impact.
- Ensure third‑party designs integrate seamlessly with other facility systems (chemical delivery, Ultra‑Pure Water) using Building Information Modeling tools.
- Collaborate with third‑party quality teams to ensure construction meets final requirements needed for operations.
- Oversee commissioning and testing phases by reviewing third‑party design performance and coordinating with vendors for equipment validation and system startup.
- Utilize BIM tools (Revit, Navisworks) and control systems (PLC, SCADA) to verify design interoperability and operational efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance to third‑party designers, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and advancements in wet mechanical system technologies.
- Monitor project progress, manage design‑related risks and ensure timely delivery of high‑quality design deliverables.
- May require occasional travel to project sites, vendor facilities or third‑party design offices.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment managing multiple design deliverables and deadlines.
- Relocation to project location required; position is 100% on‑site with no hybrid option.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years experience in waste treatment engineering with at least 2 years overseeing third‑party design or managing design processes for wastewater, chemical or solid waste treatment systems.
- Strong knowledge of waste treatment system design (chemical neutralization, biological treatment, filtration, hazardous waste disposal).
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (EPA RCRA, Clean Water Act, SEMI S2, local codes).
- Proficiency in reviewing engineering deliverables (P&IDs, 3D models, specifications) using AutoCAD, Revit or Navisworks.
- Excellent project management, communication and problem‑solving skills, with focus on safety, regulatory compliance and quality.
- Experience with PLC, SCADA and BIM workflows for design coordination desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience overseeing third‑party designs for semiconductor, pharmaceutical or data‑center facilities with stringent wet mechanical system requirements.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices (water conservation, energy‑efficient hydronic systems, IECC…
