Municipal Wastewater Process Design Engineer
Ramboll is seeking motivated and inquisitive candidates to join the Water Division in our Syracuse, NY, Rochester, NY, Arlington, VA or Richmond, VA locations.
As a Municipal Wastewater Process Design Engineer you will be responsible for:
- Plan and design portions of projects of greater complexity following engineering codes, regulations, and third‑party standards.
- Analyze, develop, and interpret reports, drawings, analytical data, and other information required for planning and design projects related to wastewater treatment.
- Review and determine regulatory requirements (local, state, federal) applicable to the assignment.
- Prepare and present reports or analysis such as design calculations, field data results/conclusions, and cost estimates to internal teams and external clients.
- Communicate directly with external stakeholders including vendors, subcontractors, contractors, regulators, etc.
- Support preparation of proposals and fee estimates.
- Train and mentor early‑career employees.
- Utilize an advanced understanding of engineering fundamentals and proficiency with relevant computer software packages and engineering techniques specific to wastewater treatment and hydraulic engineering.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Apply troubleshooting and proactive problem‑solving for field assignments in accordance with project control documents and field guidance documents.
The role involves moderate to complex assignments in wastewater treatment covering data evaluation, conceptual design, detailed design, construction support, and commissioning, requiring independent judgment in applying engineering standards.
Travel may be required depending on project requirements.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering and 10+ years of qualifying engineering experience in the wastewater treatment engineering/design field.
- Experience with BNR and ENR processes on municipal wastewater projects, particularly as related to the Chesapeake Bay Watershed or similar programs.
- Professional Engineering certification or the ability to obtain licensure within the primary state of residence or operation.
The U.S. pay range for this position is $115,000 – $140,000 annually, excluding bonuses, overtime, or other benefits. Pay varies by job location and may depend on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
