Job Summary
The NY Chemical Systems Operations Engineer will support the design, construction, commissioning, and operational transition of process chemical systems for Micron’s high‑volume semiconductor manufacturing facility in Clay, New York. The role collaborates with internal groups, external development agencies, construction partners, vendors, and operations customers to ensure chemical delivery systems meet project specifications, safety requirements, performance standards, and regulatory expectations. Initially the engineer assists with construction and commissioning activities and then transitions into operational support and sustaining engineering responsibilities after project completion.
The position requires technical expertise in chemical delivery systems, strong design‑review capability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, on‑site project environment.
- Review and validate third‑party deliverables related to chemical processing setups, including bulk chemical systems, valve manifold box/panel layouts, point‑of‑use delivery, process flow diagrams, technical equipment details, and system layouts.
- Coordinate with internal customers, construction teams, external design firms, contractors, and vendors to ensure chemical systems are integrated with facility utilities, process tools, exhaust systems, and life‑safety requirements.
- Perform technical evaluations, quality‑assurance reviews, and risk assessments to identify and resolve issues related to safety, compliance, constructability, system performance, and design alignment.
- Support construction and field execution by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, participating in field coordination, and supporting inspections.
- Support commissioning, testing, equipment validation, and system‑startup activities to ensure chemical systems meet operational, safety, and performance requirements.
- Monitor system health using diagnostic tools, performance data, and engineering analysis to proactively identify issues and support operational readiness.
- Apply engineering and BIM tools, such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks, to review system layouts, verify design interoperability, and support design coordination.
- Maintain alignment with applicable safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry guidelines, including OSHA, NFPA, SEMI, and ASME.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Demonstrated experience within chemical engineering, facilities engineering, construction engineering, or industrial system‑build support.
- Experience reviewing engineering work such as P&IDs, equipment specifications, system layouts, 3D models, and construction documentation.
- Knowledge of chemical delivery system design, hazardous chemical handling, material compatibility, pressure control, flow requirements, and leak integrity.
- Ability to work 100% on‑site at the project location, with occasional travel to project sites, vendor facilities, or design offices as needed.
- Experience supporting semiconductor, pharmaceutical, data center, or other high‑tech industrial facilities with sophisticated chemical or utility system requirements.
- Familiarity with industry standards and guidelines such as SEMI S2/S6, ASME B31.3, ASME BPE, NFPA, OSHA, and CGA requirements.
- Experience with BIM workflows and design coordination tools, including Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, or similar platforms.
- Experience with control systems such as PLC, SCADA, or related monitoring and automation platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with external design partners, vendors, construction teams, and internal customers to support project delivery and operational readiness.
$89,000 – $151,000 per year (US base salary range).
