Environmental Design & Research (EDR) is seeking a licensed Landscape Architect to support a wide range of site design and landscape architecture projects across our multidisciplinary practice. This hybrid position will, ideally, be based in our Syracuse, NY office.
However, other locations within New York State may be considered.
This role is responsible for the production, coordination, and quality assurance of project deliverables, working collaboratively with project managers, practice area leaders, and technical staff. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical design capabilities, leadership in document production, and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting deadlines and budget expectations. A key specialty for this position is a comprehensive understanding of New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) stormwater regulations, including preparation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), erosion and sediment control design, and coordination with permitting agencies.
ProjectProduction & Technical Execution
- Prepare and coordinate construction drawings, reports, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Ensure all work products meet EDR standards, client requirements, and regulatory agency standards.
- Manage document production, including coordination with internal staff and subconsultants.
- Maintain ownership of schedules, budgets, and production organization for assigned tasks.
- Perform QA/QC of drawings, calculations, and technical documents.
- Lead or support preparation of SWPPP reports in accordance with NYSDEC SPDES General Permit requirements.
- Design erosion and sediment control measures and stormwater management practices.
- Coordinate with civil engineers, environmental scientists, and regulatory agencies on permitting requirements.
- Maintain current knowledge of NYSDEC stormwater regulations, guidance documents, and updates.
- Support construction-phase compliance and documentation related to stormwater management.
- Work closely with project managers, principals, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Communicate effectively with clients, municipal officials, and regulatory agencies.
- Assist with meetings, presentations, and client communications.
- Support proposal preparation and business development efforts.
- Assign and coordinate work with designers and support staff.
- Provide mentorship and contribute to internal production standards.
- Support training and development of junior staff.
- Assist with scope development, budgeting, and scheduling.
- Track progress against project budgets and schedules.
- Support change management and deliverable tracking.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Landscape Architecture and landscape architecture licensure are required.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in site design and landscape architecture.
- Demonstrated experience preparing SWPPP documents and working with NYSDEC stormwater regulations.
- Willingness to do occasional travel for client meetings and site and field visits.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Adobe/Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of site grading, drainage, and construction documentation
- Strong understanding of applicable codes, permitting processes, and regulatory requirements
- Proven ability to produce accurate, high-quality work with strong attention to detail
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with sound judgement and decision-making skills
- Reliability and experience working effectively in a multidisciplinary design environment
The anticipated salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000 per year, based on qualifications and experience. EDR reserves the right to offer compensation outside of this range based on education, credentials, skills, internal equity, geographic location, and business needs.
