Summary:

  • The U.S. Expansion Construction team is responsible for design and construction efforts for high-tech, large-scale semiconductor manufacturing projects in the United States. As the NY Waste Treatment Operations Engineer, you will support the design, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness of waste treatment systems for Micron's semiconductor manufacturing facility in Clay, New York.

  • This role will oversee third-party design partners, contractors, and vendors to ensure waste treatment systems meet Micron's project requirements, performance standards, safety expectations, and regulatory compliance requirements. After construction and commissioning, this role is expected to transition into the NY Operations Engineering team to support sustaining engineering and operational performance.

  • Transition from construction and commissioning support into operations engineering and sustaining support upon completion of the project phase.

What's Encouraged Daily:

  • Oversee third-party design firms developing waste treatment systems, including chemical neutralization, wastewater treatment, and hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling systems.

  • Review engineering deliverables, including P&IDs, equipment specifications, system layouts, 3D models, and design packages to ensure alignment with project and regulatory requirements.

  • Evaluate waste treatment system designs for treatment efficiency, chemical compatibility, discharge compliance, safety, constructability, and long-term operational performance.

  • Partner with contractors, vendors, external design teams, and internal stakeholders to align system designs with facility requirements, construction schedules, and commissioning plans.

  • Support quality assurance, risk assessments, issue resolution, and design integration with related facility systems, including chemical delivery and Ultra-Pure Water systems.

  • Use BIM tools, control system knowledge, and design coordination workflows to verify system interoperability and support operational readiness.

  • Support commissioning, testing, equipment validation, system startup, and turnover to site operations.

  • Monitor design progress, manage technical risks, and provide guidance to ensure timely delivery of high-quality design outcomes.

How To Qualify:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 3+ years of experience in waste treatment engineering, wastewater treatment, chemical treatment, industrial utilities, or related facilities engineering.

  • Experience reviewing engineering work such as P&IDs, specifications, layouts, 3D models, or equipment documentation.

  • Working knowledge of waste treatment systems, regulatory compliance requirements, and environmental standards such as EPA, RCRA, Clean Water Act, SEMI S2, or local environmental codes.

  • Ability to work 100% on-site at the project location and support occasional travel to project sites, vendor facilities, or design partner offices as needed.

What Sets You Apart:

  • Experience supporting semiconductor, pharmaceutical, data center, or other high-tech industrial facilities with complex waste treatment or wet mechanical systems.

  • Experience overseeing third-party design firms, contractors, vendors, or construction partners through design, construction, commissioning, or operational turnover.
