Role DescriptionArcadis is seeking a Staff Industrial Wastewater Engineer to join our growing Industrial Water team in Syracuse, NY. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who is passionate about solving complex industrial water challenges and delivering innovative, sustainable treatment solutions for industrial clients across North America. As a member of our Industrial Wastewater Treatment team, you will collaborate with industry-leading experts, work on a diverse portfolio of industrial projects, and help shape solutions that improve environmental performance and operational efficiency.
You will have the opportunity to develop your technical expertise while contributing to projects from concept development through commissioning and startup. As a Staff Industrial Wastewater Engineer, you will contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of industrial wastewater treatment projects from concept development through commissioning and startup. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams and senior technical experts, you will apply your engineering expertise to develop innovative and sustainable treatment solutions while supporting successful project delivery for industrial clients across North America. You will also:
- Support the evaluation, design, and implementation of industrial wastewater treatment systems, including physical, chemical, biological, membrane, adsorption, filtration, disinfection, thermal evaporation, and crystallization processes.
- Prepare engineering calculations, process analyses, technical reports, design documentation, and treatment system specifications.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, project managers, and subject matter experts to deliver high-quality projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Support client engagements, site investigations, pilot studies, equipment selection, construction support, commissioning, and operational troubleshooting activities.
- Maintain compliance with Arcadis quality, safety, and technical standards while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
Travel (up to 25%) may be required to support client meetings, site assessments, and construction activities.
Key Skills & ExperienceThe ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of wastewater treatment processes, process equipment, and treatment system design principles, along with demonstrated proficiency in engineering calculations, technical report preparation, and data analysis. Candidates should be comfortable working within multidisciplinary project teams and have strong communication and problem‑solving skills. A proactive learning mindset and desire to develop increasing technical and project responsibilities are essential.
Experience with industrial wastewater treatment technologies—including biological treatment, membrane systems, filtration, evaporation, crystallization, water reuse, or resource recovery applications—is highly desirable.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- 5 years of experience in industrial wastewater treatment engineering
- Master's degree in Engineering or related field
- 7 years of industrial wastewater treatment experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York, or the ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity within six months of hire, is preferred.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $94,050- $131,868.
