Role Description

Arcadis is seeking a Project Wastewater Engineer to join our growing Resilience Water team in Syracuse, NY. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who is passionate about solving complex wastewater challenges and delivering innovative, sustainable treatment solutions for municipal and industrial clients throughout New York and across North America.

As a member of our team, you will collaborate with industry‑leading experts, work on a diverse portfolio of projects, and help shape solutions that improve environmental performance and operational efficiency. You will have opportunities to contribute to process evaluations, treatment technology selection, optimization studies, troubleshooting initiatives, and facility improvements for wastewater treatment systems. Role

Accountabilities

As a Project Wastewater Engineer, you will play a key role in leading technical project execution, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and delivering complex wastewater treatment solutions for municipal and industrial clients. You will apply your technical expertise and project leadership skills to support projects from planning and design through construction and startup while ensuring quality, budget, and schedule objectives are achieved. Your responsibilities include:

  • Lead technical design tasks and coordinate deliverables across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Support project planning activities, including scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination.
  • Prepare and oversee engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documents to support the successful delivery of wastewater treatment projects.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
  • Participate in client meetings, technical workshops, and proposal development activities.
  • Support client relationship management, proposal preparation, technical presentations, and business development activities while identifying opportunities for continued growth within existing and prospective client accounts.
  • Travel (up to 25%) may be required to support client meetings, project workshops, site assessments, facility evaluations, field investigations, and construction‑phase services.
Key Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong experience in wastewater treatment processes, technologies, and system design, with expertise supporting municipal and/or industrial treatment facilities. You will have a demonstrated ability to deliver technically complex projects while balancing client expectations, project schedules, budgets, and quality objectives. You are a proactive and collaborative professional with strong project leadership capabilities, including prioritizing tasks, managing client expectations, and mentoring junior staff.

Your experience includes project management and design delivery, capital and operations and maintenance (O&M) cost estimating, project scheduling, work planning, and technical documentation. A high level of emotional intelligence, sound engineering judgment, and a solutions‑oriented mindset enables you to effectively navigate complex challenges while building strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
