GZA Geo Environmental, Inc. (GZA) is seeking an Entry Level Site-Civil Engineer to join our Civil Engineering Team in our Syracuse, New York office. The successful candidate should have a strong academic record, solid understanding of civil engineering fundamentals, and a desire to work on a variety of exciting and challenging projects both in the office and in the field. Assignments will likely be focused on site design and stormwater management components of energy projects but will also span a variety of traditional site development and natural resources-based projects.
Previous work experience is preferred but not required. Strong work ethic and communication skills are highly valued. GZA emphasizes aOne Company environment, and as a member of our team, you may be asked to assist on projects and tasks outside of your primary responsibilities.
As an Entry Level Site-Civil Engineer, you will work on a variety of project components such as: site planning, layout, grading, site design development, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling of small and large watersheds, post-construction (permanent) stormwater management design, stream bank restoration, and climate change adaptation and resilience. You will work with a team of dedicated civil engineering professionals on the technical execution of projects and will collaborate with the overall interdisciplinary team.

- Develop site-civil engineering design work – site features and layout, grading, utilities, erosion and sediment controls, stormwater management design, etc.
- Conduct civil and hydrologic/hydraulic engineering technical analyses/calculations for review by senior staff.
- Prepare Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and stormwater drainage reports for review by senior staff.
- Assist in the preparation of construction and bid documents including drawings, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
- Perform field tasks including site reconnaissance, SWPPP inspections, and construction observation.
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering or related field of practice required.
- EIT certification or ability to obtain within one year. Desire to obtain Professional Engineer license.
- Effective communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings.
- Ability to read and understand design drawings and relate them to construction activities.
- Ability to work locally and regionally, including infrequently for overnight stays. Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Strong computer skills including a solid foundation in MS Office applications.
- Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station, and/or HydroCAD preferred.
- One to three years of relevant experience is preferred.
- OSHA 10-hour Construction training is a plus.
The base salary for this position may range between $66,500 and $85,400. The actual base salary and total compensation will depend on many factors, including location, candidate experience, education, professional licensure, and other qualifications.
