Job Description & How to Apply Below
Mechanical Engineer
This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on designing and engineering HVAC and related mechanical systems for a variety of building and industrial applications. You will perform detailed design work for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, as well as industrial piping, plumbing, central utility plants, compressed air systems, chilled water systems, steam systems, and fire protection. The position offers the opportunity to develop energy-efficient building solutions, work with advanced design tools, and contribute to projects in chemical, power, and industrial market segments within a supportive, development-focused culture.
Responsibilities:
- Design HVAC systems, including airside and hydronic systems, for building and industrial applications.
- Perform load calculations to size and evaluate HVAC systems and components.
- Size mechanical equipment, ductwork, and piping to meet project performance and code requirements.
- Develop energy-efficient building solutions that optimize system performance and reduce energy consumption.
- Select mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, air handling units (AHUs), variable air volume (VAV) systems, heat pumps, and related components.
- Coordinate design activities with electrical, structural, architectural, and commissioning teams to produce integrated construction documents.
- Review designs for code compliance and adherence to applicable standards and guidelines.
- Stamp drawings when licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE), ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Interface directly with clients and project managers to understand project requirements, present design solutions, and address technical questions.
- Mentor designers and junior engineers by providing technical guidance and reviewing their work.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to produce final construction drawings and details for mechanical engineering projects.
- Develop conceptual mechanical designs and cost estimates during the early stages of the project life cycle.
- Create design drawings using Revit 3D design software and other relevant design tools.
- Conduct or participate in investigative energy assessments to identify energy and cost savings measures.
- Assess and design building ventilation systems based on heat removal requirements and indoor air quality needs in industrial spaces.
- Conduct spreadsheet analyses to evaluate the energy and cost savings of proposed energy conservation measures (ECMs).
- Use building modeling software to determine envelope heat gains and losses and to assess the savings potential of ECMs.
- Specify mechanical equipment and prepare detailed equipment schedules and documentation.
- Design plumbing and building utility piping systems to support facility operations.
- Summarize engineering results in written reports and presentations that are cohesive, clear, and of high quality.
- Visit job sites as required for projects involving the upfit of existing systems to gather data and verify field conditions.
- Work at industrial facilities on a limited travel basis (less than approximately 10%) to gather data for designs and support project execution.
Essential
Skills:
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering and design of HVAC systems.
- Hands-on experience with HVAC design, including building design, load calculations, and equipment selection.
- Proficiency with Revit or AutoCAD MEP for mechanical design and documentation.
- Experience designing large-scale hydronic systems.
- Working knowledge of fire protection requirements for industrial facilities, including the International Fire Code (IFC), NFPA standards, and FM Global guidelines.
- Ability to assess and design building ventilation systems for industrial spaces, including heat removal and indoor air quality requirements.
- Ability to conduct energy and cost analyses for proposed energy conservation measures using spreadsheet tools.
- Experience specifying mechanical equipment and designing plumbing and building utility piping systems.
- Detail-oriented approach with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced work environment.
- Capability to summarize engineering findings in high-quality written reports and presentations.
Additional Skills &
Qualifications:
- Experience using Revit MEP for 3D mechanical design and coordination.
- Experience conducting investigative energy assessments to identify energy and cost savings opportunities.
- Familiarity with building modeling software to determine envelope heat gains and losses and evaluate energy conservation measures.
- Interest in working in chemical, power, and industrial market segments.
- Willingness to travel to industrial facilities for data gathering and project support (less than approximately 10% travel).
- Experience mentoring designers and junior engineers.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, with the ability to stamp drawings, is a strong advantage.
- Strong collaboration skills for coordinating with…
