You’ll join the Strategic Relations and Communications unit, a dynamic team of 14 supporting District services and senior leadership through high-quality written material and strategic advice. The team manages ministerial and government activity, reputation and issues management, and consumer feedback and complaints, playing a central role in communication and stakeholder engagement across the District. Based in Tamworth or Newcastle, you’ll be part of a collaborative, supportive and highly engaged team that values curiosity, initiative and strong relationships.

The work is fast-paced, meaningful and closely connected to improving outcomes for our community.

About

The Role

We’re seeking a proactive and inquisitive Strategic Relations Advisor with excellent writing skills. You’ll research and analyse complex issues across Hunter New England Local Health District and translate them into clear, accurate and engaging written material. This includes ministerial briefs, parliamentary notes, executive correspondence and responses for consumers, community members and other agencies. The role combines research, writing, stakeholder engagement and coordination.

You’ll work closely with senior leaders, clinical teams and colleagues across NSW Health to ensure communication is aligned, timely and supports strategic priorities. Occasional supported travel may be required.

About You

You enjoy making complex information clear and producing high-quality written work while balancing competing priorities.

We’re Looking For
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in communication, marketing, or another relevant discipline or proven experience in a similar area.
  • Exceptional writing skills across a range of audiences, including consumers, community and government stakeholders
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment in complex or sensitive situations
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy
  • Interest in public health, policy and government environments
  • Demonstrated high-level writing skills and experience managing competing priorities are essential, ideally within a government or public service environment.
Support And Development

You’ll report to the Strategic Relations Manager and be supported by an experienced, collaborative team, senior leaders and strong connections across the NSW Health system. The role includes comprehensive orientation, HETI training, regular in-team development opportunities and access to salary packaging and ongoing education. The team encourages knowledge sharing, open communication and professional growth.
