Syracuse, NY (750 E Adams St) Position Type: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Shift – 5x8 Hours (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM) Hours per Week: 40 Pay rate: $45-$50 per hour

Position Summary

Upstate University Hospital is seeking a licensed Occupational Therapist with experience in acute care and outpatient settings to provide patient-centered therapy as part of a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate clinical expertise, strong communication skills, and a passion for helping patients regain independence and functional ability in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patients to determine functional limitations and develop individualized therapy plans based on physician prescriptions.
  • Deliver occupational therapy treatments to patients recovering from injury, illness, or surgery in both acute care and outpatient settings.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to achieve treatment goals and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on adaptive techniques, home exercise programs, and strategies to enhance daily living activities.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries in accordance with facility policies.
  • Participate in patient care rounds, staff meetings, and multidisciplinary case reviews.
  • Maintain therapy equipment and ensure a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment.
  • Work one weekend per month as part of department coverage.
Education and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy – Required
  • Current New York State License in Occupational Therapy – Required
  • NBCOT Certification – Required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an acute care hospital or Level I/II trauma facility – Required
  • Experience in both inpatient and outpatient care – Required
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and documentation skills
Additional Details
  • RTO Limit:
    Up to 7 consecutive days per 13-week contract
  • Holidays:
    Travelers must be available to work 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s)
  • Vaccinations: COVID-19 and Flu Vaccines not required
  • Locals:
    Candidates within 50 miles will be submitted at the local rate
  • References:
    At least one supervisory reference required
  • Drug Screen:
    Must be completed within 2 weeks prior to start date
  • Extensions:
    Minimum 6-week extension required; longer contracts considered on a case-by-case basis
Compensation

$45.00 – $50.00 per hour
