Assistant to the Institutional Equity Officer
• Syracuse, NY, United States
The Assistant to the Institutional Equity Officer provides essential administrative and intake support for the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) and reports directly to the Institutional Equity Officer. This role manages highly confidential and sensitive information and serves as the office’s primary point of contact.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the first point of contact for visitors, callers, and email inquiries related to discrimination or harassment, including sexual harassment.
- Provide supportive resources (EAP, UPD, Counseling Services, etc.) and conduct preliminary intake by gathering essential information about the concern or incident.
- Handle all inquiries with sensitivity, discretion, and appropriate referral within or outside the office.
- Assess urgency of reports and exercise independent judgment in response.
- Maintain and organize confidential case files, including materials related to Title VI and Title IX reports.
- Compile data and assist with preparing information for investigations, grievances, discipline, lawsuits, and external agency complaints.
- Collaborate with Employee/Labor Relations on matters involving potential employee discipline or student conduct issues.
- Support policy review and revisions for the OIE office.
- Bachelor's degree and two years relevant work experience in a professional office position serving diverse communities required.
- Strong competency and experience in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required.
- Ability to prioritize tasks required.
- Familiarity with Title VI, Title IX, and Equal Employment laws preferred.
- Maxient system experience preferred.
- Strong administrative, budgeting, communication, and organizational skills preferred.
- Experience with equity initiatives, academic training, or work within higher education, student affairs, legal, human resources, hospital administration, or similar fields is desirable.
