Role
VMware Engineer
Location and DurationNY, Schenectady – 100% onsite, 12‑month contract
Key Responsibilities- Perform VMware virtualization activities including ESX, Horizon, vCenter, Cloud Volume, vGPU, vROPs, server migrations, DRS, HA, vMotion.
- Provision Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) on Amazon Workspace.
- Install and manage software on VDI environments.
- Execute Linux networking fundamentals and support NFS/ISOLON storage classes.
- Develop and manage VDI infrastructure, create new VDI master images, and administer VDI within domain and sub‑domain scopes.
- Install client applications on VDI (e.g., Java, Anaconda, kubectl, containerd, Visual Studio, .NET tools).
- Create and map storage exports for NFS and ISILO.
- Support server repairs/replacements in collaboration with vendors/suppliers.
- Manage export control related tasks.
- Track and close incidents via Service Now and Rally, handling patches, bug fixes, Service Packs, security configurations, job failures, data defects, group policy enforcement, storage management, monitoring, and alerting.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with VMWare virtualization suite (ESX, Horizon, vCenter, vSphere).
- Knowledge of networking, DNS, DHCP, and Windows servers.
- Proficiency with Windows and RHEL operating systems.
- Strong virtualization and VDI infrastructure knowledge.
- Experience with software installation and configuration in virtual environments.
- Familiarity with Linux networking fundamentals and containerization technologies.
- Understanding of NFS and ISOLON storage solutions.
- Ability to perform server migrations, DRS, HA, vMotion, and vROPs.
- Experience using Service Now for incident tracking and Rally for task management.
- Skill in installing and patching client applications on VDI.
- Capability to create and map NFS storage exports.
- Collaboration skills with vendors/suppliers for server maintenance.
- Knowledge of export control compliance requirements.
