Farm Market Assistant

Brady Farm is an organic vegetable and flower farm located in the heart of Syracuse, NY. We are seeking a Farm Market Assistant to support our farm stands, CSA and market operations throughout the growing season. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys customer-facing work, food systems education, and retail sales, while also being willing to engage with farming and production activities as needed.

The Farm Market Assistant plays a key role in connecting customers to fresh, locally grown food and representing Brady Farm in community market settings. This role is primarily market- and sales-focused, with occasional farm and production support depending on weekly needs.

• Set up, staff, and break down farm stands and barn market during market days
• Transport products, supplies, and equipment to and from markets
• Inventory produce and products before and after market shifts
• Process payments using cash, credit cards, SNAP/EBT, and market incentive programs
• Accurately record sales and inventory using Google Sheets or other digital tools
• Engage customers, answer questions, and represent Brady Farm professionally
• Maintain an organized, clean, and visually appealing market stand
• Work alongside other staff members and volunteers at markets
• Support light farm and production tasks as needed (e.g. harvesting, washing, packing, or field work during non-market hours)
• Communicate with supervisors about inventory needs, customer feedback, and market observations
• Remain flexible and prepared for changing weather, schedules, and farm priorities
• Support weekly CSA packing and deliveries

• Experience (6+ months) in retail sales, customer service, food service, or a related service field
• Ability to lift and transport heavy objects frequently (up to 50 lbs)
• Ability to be on your feet for most of the day and perform repetitive physical tasks such as bending and carrying
• Commitment to working a consistent schedule throughout the market season (approx. May–Oct; exact dates vary)
• Availability to work regular weekends and/or evenings as required by market schedules
• Ability to work in all weather conditions within reason, including heat, rain, and cold
• Ability to arrive to work independently and on time, including travel to off-site markets
• Demonstrated ability to provide friendly, inclusive, and respectful customer service
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and complete multi-step tasks accurately
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive in New York State
• Ability to safely drive and regularly operate a cargo van

• Experience working at farmers markets or farm stands
• Familiarity with locally grown and seasonal vegetables
• Experience handling cash, credit cards, SNAP/EBT, and market tokens
• Experience tracking inventory and sales using spreadsheets or POS systems
• Comfort answering customer questions about food, cooking, or farm practices
• Spanish proficiency
• Experience distinguishing between different varieties of crops and assessing their readiness for harvest
