Position: Packer/Loader - Day Shift

Reports To: Shift Supervisor
Compensation: $30.40 hourly
The US hourly rate for this position is $30.40 + benefits. Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and location. The hourly rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position. Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process, as some facilities are subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements.

Utility Operators at our Syracuse sodium nitrite plant will have the mechanical ability to safely perform general plant operator duties. Work includes tank truck vessel opening, loading and unloading, operation of pumps, piping, valves and general plant upkeep and maintenance. Also, assists Utility Operators or other plant personnel as needed. This job requires climbing stairs and ladders and also lifting (within OSHA guidelines).
This job consists of outside elements where radiant heat or cold is normal work environment.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be a Qualified Shift Operator.
- Experience operating a skid steer loader, scissor lift, forklift, Track mobile or other heavy equipment a plus
- Must be able to perform general chemical analysis skills – including bench tests, hydrometer use, titration analysis
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills and computer knowledge
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with a minimum of supervision, is highly motivated, energetic, and enjoys working as part of a team

Responsibilities- Produces Sodium Nitrite and other products according to Chemtrade Standards and quality procedures
- Performs pre-start safety and operating checks and operate mobile equipment such as skid steer loader, scissor lift, and forklift
- Operates and maintains process equipment critical to operating plant
- Performs general maintenance and equipment installation when maintenance crew is not available
- Completes and maintains safety, quality, and ISO documentation and records
- Coordinates production schedules with Production/Shipping Supervisor
- Performs routine chemical analysis of products as required
- Checks tank levels and ensure that tanks do not overflow during transfer
- Reports affecting safety, efficiency, or product quality
- Performs other duties as assigned by management
- Performs routine analysis on the cooling tower water samples
- Reports any process deficiencies and issues to the Lead Operator and Supervisors.
- Assist the Utility operator on movement of rail cars.
- Performs routine housekeeping on assigned areas this includes both daily and weekly.
- Performs safety inspections as assigned by Management
- Become familiar with Chemtrade Environmental, Health, Safety & security (EHS) policies and procedures.
- Immediately report all EHS incidents (injuries, near misses, releases).
- Complete all required EHS training in a timely fashion.
- Follow all Chemtrade facility and corporate EHS procedures and practices.
- Attend and actively participate in facility EHS meetings and forums that will drive employee involvement.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for EHS program improvement.
- Participate in job safety analysis activities.
- Gain a thorough working knowledge of Chemtrade Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS) policies and procedures.
- Provide input to improve EHS performance compared to metrics.
- Provide leadership through participation in EHS initiatives and programs.
- Adhere to Chemtrade Life Critical Procedure program and perform lock out and tag outs of equipment as well as issuing safe work permits
- Participate in EHS meetings and training forums.
