Job Summary

Assist Physicians in providing care and continuity of service to patients within his or her specialty.

Responsibilities

Perform a health status assessment of the patient which includes a health history, a physical examination, and a systematic recording of the data.

Initiate and/or perform selected procedures and laboratory examinations for diagnostic screening and referral purposes.

Discriminate between normal and abnormal findings and make appropriate referrals to the physician for evaluation and/or supervision.

Initiate appropriate treatment modalities, prescribing medications, assistive devices and other equipment.

Teach, counsel and assist the patient and family in meeting health needs, making referrals to other health professionals and agencies as required.

Participate in diagnostic testing to the extent allowed within the scope of practice.

Teaching and Staff Development

Act as a consultant to nursing staff and, when appropriate, participate in in‑service training for the staff and in the community if needed.

Assist in clinical orientation of students or staff to the routines and policies utilized in patient management.

Select and provide resource materials for nursing staff.

Research

Participate in research projects within the medical specialty.

Minimum Qualifications

NYS licensed/registered NP or PA required (NYS NP specialty area of certification must be consistent with practice). Must have NPI number and be Medicare Enrolled with Medicare Identification Number (or PTAN) or be eligible for Medicare Enrollment within 6 months of hire (eligibility criteria for NP requires National Certification through AANP or ANCC, and Master’s Degree) (eligibility criteria for PA requires graduation from an accredited PA program and National Certification through NCCPA).

Initial certification must be present or obtained within 6 months of hire. Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required.

Salary

L5: $92,000 - $147,004

Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. The salary range depicted is based on full time, 1.0 FTE and would be prorated accordingly for less than 1.0 FTE.
