Job Title: Registered Nurse - Inpatient Pediatrics / Behavioral Health

Location: Syracuse, NY

Duration: 13-Week Contract

Schedule: Day Shift - 3x12-Hour Shifts

Hours: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours Weekly

Compensation:
  • Traveler Pay: $70-$74/hour ($2,520-$2,664/week) based on experience
  • Local Pay: $55-$60/hour ($1,980-$2,160/week) based on experience
Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to provide specialized care within an Inpatient Pediatrics and Behavioral Health setting. The ideal candidate will have experience caring for pediatric patients with behavioral health needs in an acute care environment and demonstrate strong assessment, communication, and critical-thinking skills. This role requires flexibility to support multiple pediatric units as needed while delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based patient care.
Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients in an inpatient behavioral health setting.
  • Perform ongoing patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Monitor patient conditions and respond appropriately to behavioral, emotional, and medical needs.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and established protocols.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately within the electronic medical record.
  • Collaborate with physicians, behavioral health professionals, therapists, and interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Support crisis intervention and patient safety initiatives when necessary.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain compliance with patient safety, infection prevention, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide therapeutic communication and emotional support to pediatric patients and families.
  • Float to other pediatric units or specialty areas as required based on staffing needs.
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient care initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.
Licensure & Certifications
  • Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
Experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of recent Behavioral Health nursing experience required.
  • Experience working in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center required.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of recent acute care nursing experience within the past two years required.
  • Experience caring for pediatric patients in an inpatient setting preferred.
  • Travelers must have experience in hospitals of comparable size, acuity, or trauma designation.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong pediatric nursing assessment and clinical judgment skills.
  • Behavioral health and crisis management experience.
  • Ability to provide safe, compassionate, patient-centered care.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong documentation and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical records preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to multiple patient care settings and float assignments.
Additional Requirements
  • Every other weekend required.
  • Holiday coverage required based on departmental needs.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment health screening and background requirements.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Professional license and certifications must be in good standing.
