Job Summary
Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to patients within the Department of Medicine. The RN monitors patient, procedure assistant, preceptor and triage nurse. The RN is also expected to help assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care while overseeing the work of the licensed practical nurse and ancillary staff in the practice.
Responsibilities- Float to different divisions within the Department of Medicine.
- Screen patients, take vital signs, review medication list, assist clinician with exams, maintain patient flow.
- Record concise, accurate and complete information regarding patient history, medications, teaching, etc., as per policy.
- Handle telephone interactions under supervision of clinician or Nurse Manager; manage prescription renewals, enter/edit labs, and maintain communication between clinician and patient. Provide written patient education material.
- Maintain exam rooms, stock rooms with supplies, clean instruments, and manage inventory.
- Maintain medical charts, flow sheets, forms and process insurance forms; perform scanning and abstraction.
- Provide backup/coverage to other office staff as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Complete and maintain EPIC training and proficiency at all relevant nursing courses.
- Attend nursing staff meetings and participate in sharing knowledge, information and ideas among team members.
- Assist in the orientation of new personnel when requested.
- Follow procedures set for adherence to the safety guidelines and policies of the practice and OSHA, including cleaning of equipment and instruments.
- Inform Nurse Manager of any areas for concern.
- Perform other duties in any area necessary to insure the safe and effective operation of the practice.
- Complete administrative forms at Registered Nurse level of expertise.
- NYS licensed/registered RN.
- Prior experience in an outpatient setting (specialty area) strongly preferred.
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required.
- Experience in a multidisciplinary medical environment.
Monday through Friday daytime hours; part time or full time position available. 24–40 hours per week based on the candidate's preference.
