Addiction RN Fellow

Job Summary

This is a temporary, 6-month training program in collaboration with NYS OASAS and Crouse Addiction Treatment Services.

Carries out duties and responsibilities per legal requirements under the Registered Nurse Scope of Practice, with emphasis on leading a culture of safecare.

Responsible for all activities requiring assessment, planning, diagnosing,evaluating,judgment, problem-solving, creating and implementing the plan of care.

Administers prescribed medications in accordance with policies and procedures of theorganizations. Provides appropriate education to patients and families topromote health, facilitate rehabilitation and maintain wellness. Evaluateseffectiveness revising appropriately. Serves as an advocate for patients and families while applying ethical principles of care. Consults patient data to identify trends in patient status; applies findings to enhance plan of care.

Monitors and evaluates patient responses to treatment and collaborate with multidisciplinary team to adjust plan of care. Gives an accurate objective and complete hand off communication with change of caregivers. Utilizes andengages in evidence based practice to deliver quality patient care. Demonstratescharacteristics and skills that promote critical thinking in clinical problem solvingsituations.

Our educational purpose is to train fellows in the fundamentals of addiction medicine including (1) the elements of specific treatments for Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and (2) assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders inthe presence of comorbid SUDs and (3) assessment, treatment, referral ofmedical complications of Addiction and Addiction related disorders.

NYS licensed/registered RN. Prior experience in an outpatient setting (specialty area) strongly preferred. Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required.

In synchrony with SUNY Upstate's Mission to improve the health of the communities we serve through education, biomedical research and patient care,the mission of Upstate Addiction Medicine/ Crouse Health is to improve thehealth of the communities we serve by working together with all members ofour community to enhance health and to assist those battling substance usedisorders. The program's research is designed to study this field to lead to innovations for optimal care of patients at Upstate and disseminate this information to our colleagues.
