Locum Coverage For Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistant

Location: Syracuse, NY

Position Type: Locum | NP/PA – Neonatology

Seeking an experienced Neonatal NP/PA for full-time locum coverage in a Level III NICU in Syracuse, NY. This long-term role offers a 7 on/7 off schedule with 12-hour shifts (days or nights), providing continuity of care for high-risk neonates in a 16-bed unit.

• Setting: Level III NICU

• Reason for Coverage: LOA and reduced staff availability

• Shift: Long-term, 7 days on / 7 days off | 12-hour shifts (day or night)

• Unit Size: 16-bed NICU (average census 8–9)

• Admissions: 0–2 per shift

• Team: 3 neonatologists, 6+ mid-levels, and NICU RNs

• Supervision: RNs and ancillary staff (not NNPs)

• Support: Neonatologist present during day, on-call 24 hours

• Deliveries: Required to attend C-sections

• Nursery Coverage: Level I well-baby coverage required during night shifts

• Transfers: No transport required;
  Level IV NICU nearby manages transfers

• EMR: Epic

• Board Certified Neonatal NP or experienced NICU PA – REQUIRED

• Active New York License – REQUIRED

• Independent NICU management experience – REQUIRED

• Shifts: 12-hour, 7 on / 7 off (days or nights)

• Procedures:

  • Ventilation management (ETT, BiPAP/CPAP)

  • Chest tube insertion

  • Exchange transfusions

  • UAC/UVC placement, LPs

  • Central and arterial line placement

  • Diagnostic/therapeutic taps

  • Evaluation & management of acute volume/BP issues
