About The Role

The IR Sedation Nurse is responsible for assessment of patients, developing, evaluating and modifying the plan of care for patients receiving moderate sedation for surgical procedures. The Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for the comfort and safety of patients for a designated time frame.

Responsibilities
  • Perform activities necessary for preparation of the patient and procedure room for radiology procedures in compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Conduct all necessary preparations for the patient procedure room.
  • Stock the Nursing Cart for the day’s procedures with supplies including EKG leads and oxygen.
  • Print daily schedule and pre‑op call template.
  • Perform narcotic count in the morning, document all used narcotics, and return unused items to lock box.
  • End‑of‑day narcotic count.
  • Check in the first patient of the day, explain procedure, answer questions and address concerns.
  • Administer medication pre, intra and post‑op.
  • Monitor patient vitals intra‑op including BP, EKG rhythm, oxygen saturation, ensuring no airway obstruction.
  • Scan items used in the procedure room into the inventory management system.
  • Administer sedation medication through IV access.
  • Transfer patient from procedure room to holding area, hook up to monitor, take first vitals, sign off on transfer document.
  • Comply with HIPAA policies and standards regarding patient confidentiality.
  • Oversee crash cart, perform AED checks and expired medication log daily.
  • Check inventory monthly, remove and restock if outdated.
  • Train new nurses and medical assistants as needed.
  • Make post‑op call to patient and dictate into patient’s chart.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited RN program.
  • Current state license.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Preferred: at least one year of medical/surgical experience.
Computer Skills

Thorough knowledge of computer information systems required.

Salary

$35.00 - $43.10 / hour
