Job Summary

Functions as Quality/Safety Officer in the Department of Pathology, overseeing development and optimization of all aspects of quality, lab audits, safety audits, process improvement, and Lean Six Sigma implementation and maintenance.

The position provides leadership and guidance in planning, tracking, and executing quality and improvement projects across the department.

  • Generate the annual quality plan with the Medical Director/QA officer.
  • Generate a continuous laboratory quality improvement plan with the administrator.
  • Design audits and tools to capture audit data.
  • Coordinate inspection and accreditation activities.
  • Maintain NYSDO permit information related to proficiency testing.
  • Monitor ongoing progress related to action plans and coordinate completion of the NYSDOH Laboratory Evaluation Report.
  • Coordinate responses to the Safety Intelligence and ECRI Safety/Recall Systems.
  • Compile and report quality activities and gaps to the Departmental Quality Assurance Committee.
  • Coach laboratory supervisors and managers on Lean Methodologies.
  • Conduct annual review of QA and Safety procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed to practice in a Clinical Laboratory in New York State.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related field and at least five years of licensed technologist laboratory experience.
  • Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma, PDSA, and project management.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Vision requirements: use of both eyes, depth perception, and ability to distinguish colors and shades of colors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification.
Work Days

Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
