This position requires regular in‑person presence on campus to support students, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to our academic environment.
Reporting directly to lab director Dr. Jay Golden, Director of the Dynamic Sustainability Lab (DSL) at Syracuse University, the postdoctoral researcher will support research into the U.S. biobased economy, including bioenergy, biochemicals, bioplastics, sustainable aviation fuels, and biobased building materials. The role also involves supporting development and expansion of an interactive biobased feed stocks and products database and website (https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) and applying artificial intelligence tools for data management and visualization.
The researcher will mentor undergraduate and graduate students, assist with limited teaching opportunities, and help produce technical reports, research articles, and outreach content.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200
United.
- 40% Research on the biobased economy, including markets, economics, production, processors, producers, and institutional buyers. This includes leveraging AI tools and developing research technical bulletins, articles, and general interest pieces.
- 30% Supporting the expansion and update of DSL databases and developing new tools to connect producers with buyers.
- 30% Mentoring student researchers and supporting them with research activities, data management, and visualization, and proper use of AI tools and models.
- Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in environmental sciences, environmental policy, environmental engineering, bio‑agricultural sciences/engineering, chemical engineering, supply chain management, or computer science.
- Experienced researcher in environmental engineering/sciences or biobased feed stocks, biochemicals, and/or bioenergy.
- Strong skills in data management and visualization.
- Understanding of biobased supply chains is preferable.
- Demonstrated experience with AI in data development and visualization, including models such as Claude and Notebook LP.
- Knowledge of environmental life cycle assessments and greenhouse gas accounting (scopes 1, 2, 3).
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English and evidence of technical reports.
