Research Scientist / Lab Manager

The Zhao Laboratoryin the Department of NeurosurgeryatSUNY Upstate Medical University is seeking a highly motivated

Research Scientist/Lab Managerto join a translational neuroscience research program investigating mechanisms of brain repair and developing novel therapies for traumatic brain injury, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, and cerebral small vessel disease.

The Zhao Laboratory is anNIH-funded translational neuroscience laboratorywith a strong focus on neurorepair, white matter regeneration, and advanced single-cell and spatial multiomic technologies. The laboratory employs cutting-edge approaches, including
10x Genomics single-cell transcriptomics, Visium HD spatial transcriptomics, molecular biology, advanced microscopy, and preclinical disease modelsto investigate mechanisms of neurological disease and brain repair. The laboratory is expanding its translational research program to integrate preclinical and patient-based studies aimed at understanding disease progression and promoting brain repair, providing opportunities to participate in multidisciplinary and clinically relevant neuroscience research.

The Research Scientist/Lab Manager will serve as the Principal Investigator's primary scientific and operational assistant, supporting laboratory management while independently conducting research, analyzing data, contributing to scientific manuscripts and grant applications, and training students and junior researchers. The successful candidate will help coordinate multiple research projects and play an integral role in advancing the laboratory's research program.

Qualifications

Applicants should have aPhD in Neuroscience or a related disciplinewith3-5 years of research experience.

Experience with molecular biology (qRT-PCR, Western blotting), rodent models and microsurgical techniques, cell culture, confocal microscopy, image analysis, transgenic mouse models, behavioral testing, and advanced genomics approaches—including
10x Genomics single-cell transcriptomics, Visium HD spatial transcriptomics, and bioinformatics analysis of multiomic datasets is highly desirable. Excellent communication, organizational, and scientific writing skills are expected.

Salary

Approximately $75,000 annually, plus a competitive benefits package.
