Clean Harbors is seeking an Environmental Field Chemist to support hazardous waste operations for industrial and commercial clients. In this role, you will perform field sampling, classification, and packaging of hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with environmental and DOT regulations. You will maintain accurate manifests, operate field equipment, and coordinate with transportation and disposal teams. Working within a safety-first culture, you'll help deliver reliable environmental solutions while gaining exposure to diverse projects and opportunities for skill development and advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field sampling, identification, and characterization of hazardous waste materials at client sites
  • Oversee safe packaging, labeling, and transportation of hazardous waste in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Perform on-site chemical handling, segregation, and basic analytical testing following standard operating procedures
  • Maintain accurate documentation, manifests, and field reports for all waste streams and site activities
  • Operate and maintain field equipment, PPE, and instrumentation, ensuring proper calibration and safety checks
  • Collaborate with project managers, drivers, and facility teams to coordinate waste collection, shipment, and disposal
  • Participate in safety meetings, audits, and emergency response drills to support a safety-first culture
  • Provide technical guidance to customers on proper waste classification, storage, and environmental compliance
