Job Summary
Position: Senior Security Officer (Armed) – Various Shifts (Day Shift available)
Employment Type: Full time
Sign‑On Bonus: $3,000 for full‑time hires
Schedule: Multiple shifts, including day and other options
- Provide armed, uniformed security presence throughout St. Joseph’s Health campuses.
- Assess threats, respond immediately, and mitigate offenses against public order, life, and safety of staff, patients, visitors, and others.
- Conduct security and safety rounds, fixed‑post assignments, and respond promptly to calls for service.
- Investigate incidents, complete thorough written reports, and submit findings to leads and leadership.
- Coordinate with law‑enforcement agencies when necessary and maintain proper use of force policies.
- Perform searches of patients, visitors, and staff in accordance with the search policy and core values.
- Operate Department equipment safely, including motor vehicles, firearms, and pepper gel.
- Maintain video surveillance, access‑control systems, and photographic evidence as required.
- Ensure confidentiality of investigations and comply with security protocols.
- Identify hazards and threats to campus safety, initiate corrective actions, and report deficiencies immediately.
- Valid New York State Armed Security Guard License (includes firearms training and a valid NYS pistol permit) or active NYS police officer status at hiring.
- Police officers must obtain an armed security license and NYS pistol permit within 6 months of hire.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in Armed Security Guard, Healthcare/Hospital security, or Law Enforcement (Police or Peace Officer). Law‑enforcement experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED required;
Associate Degree preferred. - Valid New York State Driver’s License required.
- IAHSS Basic Security Certification completed within one year of hire.
- FEMA Emergency Management Institute courses (IS‑100c) completed within 90 days of hire.
- BLS Certification required upon hire or within 3 weeks.
- Successful psychiatric evaluation prior to hire.
- Demonstrated understanding of New York State Penal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, use‑of‑force continuum, and private security application.
Frequent exposure to adverse conditions such as noise, noxious odors, temperature extremes, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases. Routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and other bodily substances. Physical work includes light lifting (≤ 15 lb), moderate lifting (15–30 lb), and heavy lifting (31–50 lb). Standing, walking, and static posture are common, with occasional patient handling up to 35 lb.
Compensation & BenefitsPay range: $25.00 – $35.70 per hour, based on experience, skill, and education. Exempt positions will receive equivalent base salary. Sign‑on bonus: $3,000 for eligible full‑time hires.
