Job Summary

This position will report to the Maintenance Supervisor I (supervisor of painter, mason/plaster shops). The Trades Generalist Painter must be able to perform journeyman level Painting work and semi-skilled work in Carpentry and Masonry. Must know and demonstrate the proper techniques of the painting trade. Ability to properly prepare surfaces to receive paints, epoxies, urethane, and stains to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces and fixtures of buildings, structures, furniture, equipment and material.

Ability to match and mix paint colors using colorant machine. Ability to repair sheetrock or plaster walls and show the proper methods used in the finishing of newly installed sheetrock. Ability to read from and interpret blue prints. Must be able to perform semi-skilled Carpentry work including (but not limited to):
Installing sheetrock on walls and ceilings, suspended tiles, VCT flooring, wall base, and installing or adjusting door hardware. Install hand rails, shelving, coat racks, pictures, etc. Must be able to perform semi-skilled masonry work including (but not limited to): laying building materials such as stone, brick, concrete cinder blocks and the like to construct or repair walls. Mix mortar or concrete to workable consistency and spread on surfaces to specified depths and finishes.

Must demonstrate working knowledge of theory practice, techniques, applicable standards, regulation codes, tools, materials, and equipment used in the assigned trades. Ability to assemble scaffolding and ladders and work heights on both. Must be able to perform moderate to heavy manual labor. Ability to oversee the work of lower grade personnel. Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.

Must be free of facial hair that would interfere with respiratory fit testing or the use of a respirator/dust mask. Must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver's license.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of full-time experience in the painting trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of experience in carpentry and masonry work under the supervision of a skilled trades worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.

Work Days

Schedule based on 40 hour work week. Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm
