Installation Technician, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Job Description
Exercise judgment to plan and perform all work in the layout, installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical equipment of low, and medium voltage.
Education and ExperienceAn advanced knowledge of the electrical trade equivalent to complete accredited apprentice training.
At least three years additional practical experience.
A valid driver’s license; must have the ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
Must provide own hand tools including pliers, screwdrivers, wire cutters, allen wrenches, channel locks, tape measures, etc.
Responsibilities- Repair or replace transformers, switch gear, power centers, and associated control equipment, starters, motors, steam turbine and diesel‑driven generators, elevators, power and lighting distribution systems, instruments and meters.
- Run conduit and wiring for various installations.
- Work from blueprints, schematic diagrams to determine material requirements and place orders.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems, and repair or replace component parts.
- Standing 65% – 90% of the shift.
- Frequent bending at the waist; able to bend to below the knee (50% – 80% of shift).
- Frequent stooping and/or crouching (50% – 80% of shift).
- Frequent twisting and bending of head, neck, and torso (75% – 95% of shift).
- Full range of arm movement (extension, twisting, bending, reaching overhead).
- Visual and cognitive capability sufficient to troubleshoot and diagnose problems and make repairs; able to read and interpret blueprints.
- Wrist and finger dexterity sufficient to use and operate a variety of hand tools, run wiring, etc.
- May need to work on a ladder, scaffolds, bucket truck, or at other elevated heights.
- Able to drive vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions.
- Able to climb up into and down from truck cab.
- May be required to work in tight spaces.
- Able to work in extreme heat and cold.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- May be exposed to dust, strong odors, chemicals, oils and solvents.
Use a variety of hand tools including hand tools, silica power tools and benders. Work from ladders, scaffolds, bucket truck, confined spaces including manholes. The employee is required to provide their own hand tools including pliers, screwdrivers, wire cutters, channel locks, tape measures, etc.
