Job Summary
Responsible for performing journeyman level work as a Carpenter and semi‑skilled work in painting and masonry. Will assist in carrying out projects, and may supervise and instruct lower grade incumbents as needed; will read blueprints and maintain new and existing equipment. Must have basic knowledge of all hand and shop tools associated with the carpentry trade. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: construction and repair of walls, ceilings, floors, doors, cabinetry, counters, and shelving;
roofing, millwork, furniture construction, repair and cabinetwork; small repairs to furniture, windows, screens, picture frames; installation of metal doors, frames, locks (mortise and cylindrical), door hardware, sheetrock, all types of ceilings (suspended, acoustic, aluminum pan); installation of floors and baseboards (VCT); installation of cabinets and countertops using proper anchoring methods; preparing surfaces for painting, cracking or jointing; minor repairs to sheetrock and plaster;
priming and painting walls using appropriate techniques. Must demonstrate knowledge of math used in the carpentry trade and working knowledge of carpentry techniques; supervise and train; be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting; possess and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license.
Four years of full‑time experience in the carpentry trade under a skilled tradesperson, providing training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
Preferred QualificationsTwo years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work in related trades of masonry and painting under the supervision of a skilled tradesman or completion of an appropriate two‑year technical school course.
Work DaysSchedule based on a 40‑hour work week. Monday‑Friday 7 am–3:30 pm.
