This position requires regular in‑person presence to support students, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to the academic environment. Remote work arrangements are limited in accordance with University policy.
Pay Range: $32.365 – $35.96 per hour.
Job Type: Full‑time, Non‑exempt, Unionized (UP).
Hours:
Monday‑Friday 3:00 pm–11:30 pm (subject to change).
- High school education or equivalent required.
- Advanced knowledge of the steamfitting trade equivalent to completed accredited apprentice training.
- At least five years of additional practical experience.
- Must provide own hand tools: pipe wrenches (up to 14"), allen, crescent, open‑end wrenches, assorted screwdrivers, files, chisels, hacksaw, hammer, pump pliers, tube cutter, benzomatic torch, etc.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
- Plan, layout and install new and replacement steam and chilled water systems.
- Install boilers, thread or weld piping for heating, steam reduction stations, fire protection systems, etc.
- Maintain and repair existing systems.
- Inspect, install and repair a variety of pneumatic, electrical and combination valves (most electrical work is performed by others).
- Chemically treat water for all systems as instructed.
- Install steam and chilled water pipe insulation.
- Plan and perform preventive maintenance duties such as lubricating pumps.
- May be required to perform duties of HVAC Mechanic.
- Standing 65% – 90% of the shift.
- Frequent bending at the waist; ability to bend below the knee (50 – 80%).
- Frequent stooping and/or crouching (50 % – 80% of shift).
- Frequent twisting and bending of head, neck and torso (75 – 95%).
- Full range of arm movement.
- Visual and cognitive capability sufficient to read and interpret diagrams and blueprints, troubleshoot and diagnose problems, and make repairs.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations as necessary for installation tasks.
- Wrist and finger dexterity and fine motor skills for use of a variety of hand tools.
- Ability to handle and operate power tools.
- Repetitive arm movement (e.g., hammering).
- May need to work on a ladder, scaffold or other elevated heights.
- Ability to perform all driving tasks with manual and automatic transmissions.
- Ability to climb up into and down from a truck cab.
- Ability to work in extreme heat conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; push/pull up to 75 pounds.
- May be exposed to flames, smoke, strong odors, dust, chlorine and other chemicals.
- Install various piping (schedule #40 and #80 black pipe, type ‘L’, hard copper pipe, plastic tubing, etc.).
- Use caustic and non‑caustic chemicals for water treatment and cleaning.
- Operate pipe threader, welding equipment and a variety of hand tools.
