Equipment Mechanic
This role focuses on maintaining, repairing, and replacing parts on a variety of heavy equipment and fleet vehicles in a shop setting, with occasional field work at construction sites. You will use your mechanical expertise to keep equipment safe, reliable, and operating efficiently to support ongoing construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Inspect heavy equipment and fleet vehicles to identify mechanical issues, wear, and potential failures.
- Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement of parts on heavy equipment and fleet vehicles in a shop environment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical problems using construction and diesel mechanic knowledge to determine root causes and appropriate repairs.
- Conduct equipment repairs in the field, including on roadways and sidewalk construction sites, as needed.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to complete mechanical repairs safely and effectively.
- Follow established procedures and safety practices while working on construction equipment and vehicles.
- Document work performed, including repairs completed, parts used, and any follow-up maintenance needs.
- Collaborate with field crews and supervisors to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both shop and field environments.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience as a mechanic working on equipment and vehicles.
- Proficiency in equipment repair, including diagnosing and fixing mechanical issues.
- Experience working with heavy equipment commonly used in construction environments.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills for construction and diesel equipment.
- Ability to perform repairs on both fleet vehicles and heavy construction equipment.
- Working knowledge of construction-related mechanical systems and components.
- Capability to work safely in a shop and on active construction sites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in construction environments, particularly roadways and sidewalk projects.
- Experience as a diesel mechanic or working with diesel-powered equipment.
- Familiarity with maintaining and repairing a variety of construction equipment types.
- Comfort working independently in the field to perform on-site repairs.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with field crews and supervisors.

Work Environment
You will work primarily in a shop setting, with regular travel to active construction sites for roadways and sidewalks across Central New York to perform field repairs. At any given time, there are approximately 35 to 40 employees working in the field.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Solvay, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
