JOB SUMMARY

Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Shop Diesel Technician II to support future growth of the Company. The Shop Diesel Technician II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. They may perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Shop Diesel Technician or higher, continuing to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.

A successful technician complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.

DUTIES
  • Always follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
  • Determine parts required for each job independently and interact with the Shop Parts Department to obtain them.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment; assist in cleanup at the end of each day for tools, parts, and equipment.
  • Apply knowledge acquired through formal training or on‑job experience to perform work; evaluate technical information related to the job.
  • Work with Service Writer to assess customer needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
  • Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, and maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a shop environment.
  • Occasionally travel to customer locations to perform work.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work accurately in Repair Orders, upload pictures, and record all findings on company issued devices or the Karmak application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
  • Communicate with Shop Manager and support team to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, or discuss RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Participate in and complete all company‑required safety training.
  • Maintain shop‑assigned service trucks; conduct safety checks and daily pre/post trip inspections.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment such as electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment including electrical/brake/cooling systems, air‑conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Assist Shop Diesel Technician I with diagnostics.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma/GED and at least 3 years’ experience in a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Ability to successfully complete and pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
  • Current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining, or a DOT physical if the card has four months or less.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Safe drivers needed; 3‑year Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review required.
  • Must hold a valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
