POSITION SUMMARY:

In this role, the Part Time Overnight Care Coordinator will work at the Vera House shelter facility and handle a variety of day-to-day care and support activities for the victims of domestic violence, abuse, and sexual assault. The Overnight Care Coordinator will provide in-person and telephone crisis intervention at the request of victims or referral sources; ensure a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment to all shelter residents and visitors.

This position will manage difficult and/or emotional client situations and respond promptly to client needs, often providing emotional support for the short-term and immediate needs of shelter residents and their families. This role will perform daily cleaning duties, prepare rooms for new residents, and assist with room turnover to ensure a welcoming environment.

Shift available:
  • Sunday and Monday-7pm-7am (overnight differential applies for partial hours)
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide crisis intervention, local service delivery systems advocacy, along with short‑term counseling and support to individuals and families experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault and other violent trauma as well as provide emotional support, face to face and telephone crisis intervention, advocacy, and information/referrals at the request of the victims or referral sources.
  • Maintain client database consistent with Vera House practices.
  • Respond to the 24‑hour crisis line during working hours.
  • Support emergency or deep‑cleaning needs, as assigned.
  • Assist victims/clients in identifying, understanding, and prioritizing problems and needs and, in obtaining information on available resources, as well as assist in seeking help from intervention systems, including criminal justice, legal, medical counseling and income programs at various community partner locations.
  • Communicate needs and concerns to the appropriate shelter staff and/or community partners regarding the goals and plans of the residents.
  • Maintain strong professional boundaries, limited to the extent of professional relationships, ensuring compliance, ethical and appropriate interactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support shelter operations, resident services, and facility needs.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND

EXPERIENCE:
  • Associate degree in human services a plus OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 1‑3 years’ experience working in human services setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of domestic and sexual violence including elder abuse.
  • Knowledge of community service delivery systems in the community, as well as an understanding of the criminal and civil justice systems.
  • Prompt response to crisis as well as thorough and consistent follow‑up.
  • Ability to develop a positive, compassionate rapport with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other violent trauma.
  • Good interpersonal, oral communication and written skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and ability to provide trauma‑informed services.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently as needed.
  • Capability to adapt to demanding situations and work well under pressure.
  • Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License and have access to a reliable vehicle for travel throughout the area and to transport clients in a company vehicle.
  • Completion of a satisfactory background check.
SALARY RANGE:

$18.00 - $20.00 hourly (non‑exempt)
