Client Care Specialist – Emergency Shelter, Part-Time 2nd Shift | Syracuse, NY
Schedule: Thursdays through Saturdays: 9:00 PM–7:30 AM
Starting Pay: $18.50 per hour
2nd Shift Differential:Additional $1.00 per hour for hours worked between 1:00pm-11:30pm

The Rescue Mission is seeking a
Part-Time Client Care Specialist
to join our Syracuse Emergency Shelter team. In this direct-care human services role, you will support individuals experiencing homelessness by helping create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where clients can access resources, receive encouragement, and work toward greater stability and independence.
This is a great opportunity for someone interested in
human services, social services, behavioral health, mental health, crisis support, residential care, or other direct-care work.
As a Client Care Specialist, you will:
- Build positive, professional relationships with clients.
- Provide support, encouragement, and motivation while helping clients maintain or build independence.
- Treat all clients with respect, dignity, and compassion.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients.
- Help create a safe, supportive, and welcoming shelter environment.
- Conduct regular rounds and monitor the facility to support client safety.
- Assist clients with basic needs, including personal care items and bedding.
- Respond to client concerns and challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Reinforce shelter guidelines and expectations respectfully and consistently.
- Connect clients with appropriate Rescue Mission services and resources.
- Conduct drug and breathalyzer testing when required.
- Document important client information while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
- Communicate relevant information with team members and participate in meetings.
- Complete required training within 30 days of assignment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in
Human Services or a related field
, or equivalent work experience, preferred. - Experience supporting individuals experiencing
homelessness, substance use, mental health challenges, or other barriers
is desired.

- Crisis-management and problem-solving abilities.
- Flexibility and adaptability.
- Strong time-management skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional when working with individuals who may have complex needs or challenges.
- Basic computer skills.

Compensation & Benefits:- Starting Pay: $18.50 per hour
- 2ndShift Differential (1:00pm – 11:30pm):
Additional $1.00 per hour.
